DIY Dry Shampoo (with essential oils)

I love DO IT YOURSELF projects. Some of my endeavors have turned out quite well, but others have been flops. I am willing to share both.

Shampoos and Conditioners

What is the problem with commercial shampoos and conditioners we use on our hair – POISONS – Yes indeed. Chemicals that can harm our bodies and ruin our health and we are using these products day in and day out. Watch for labels containing such ingredients as sulfates:ammonium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and sodium laureth sulfate. Be aware of methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. And scary to me are the other neurological cancer causing toxins. My two sisters were diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and 2013. About four years ago I started checking labels and buying my shampoo at Health food stores and places like Dave’s in SLC. In 2013 I started using the natural shampoo and conditioner from doTerra. It is great and a bottle lasts me more than two months – but I have thin, mid-length hair so everyone uses different amounts. You don’t really need to shampoo everyday – in fact sometimes your hair needs a rest! You can save time and money using a dry powder several times during the week. Here’s a DIY dry recipe to use between shampooing:

For light hair:

Mix 2 cup arrowroot powder, 4 drops Peppermint essential oil, 4 drops Lavender essential oil, and 4 drops Rosemary essential oil in a food processor and store in a glass jar.
For dark hair: Add  4 tablespoons cocoa powder in the mix. Then just brush it into your hair with a make-up brush or other small brush, applying to the roots and oily spots.

You can also try substituting the Rosemary for Melaleuca also. Find what you like
